Jaya's Immolating Inferno

The permission gate up front is a deckbuilding tax masquerading as a casting cost: you pay for the X damage in mana, but you also pay by keeping a legendary creature or planeswalker in play long enough to cast at all. Crucially, that requirement checks on casting, not resolution. Point the burn at your legend's would-be killer, and even if a response removes the enabler in reply, the spell still resolves in full. What the leash buys is uncapped scaling with no dilution. There is no clause splitting X among the targets, no per-target reduction, no penalty for spreading: each of the up-to-three targets takes the full X. A single resolution can wipe three small bodies for cheap, or dump the same X into three separate faces, planeswalkers, and blockers at once. The flexibility lives in the target count, not the arithmetic, and the targets must be distinct: this is spread damage, not a single overloaded blast. Where most X-burn either picks one target or carves up a shared pool, this refuses to divide, which pushes it away from being a removal spell and toward being a board-clearing finisher. The catch is that the card is tied to a board state rather than a curve; draw it with no legend in play and it is inert. That fragility is the price of the uncapped rate, and it is what separates this design from the plain X-burn it otherwise resembles.
