Izzet Boilerworks
Hand back a land, enter tapped, and in exchange get a single source that taps for two pips of color depth: that is the trade this dual-land cycle has always asked. The turn you play it is genuinely painful, because you net no new mana and forfeit a land drop's worth of development. The back end is where the math reverses. Returning a tapped land you already spent effectively pre-untaps it for next turn, and the card's real baseline payoff is simple bookkeeping: one card from hand now stands in for two mana sources, since the bounced land replays for free later. A basic cannot do that. Layer a payoff on top and the design opens up further, because replaying that bounced land lets it re-fire any enters-the-battlefield landfall trigger a second time. That recursion is the quiet trick: color fixing and a reusable trigger engine folded into one card, which favors slower decks that can absorb the upfront tax over aggressive ones that cannot. The output anchors a two-color base that wants both halves of a spell early; a single land here satisfies a requirement two pips deep that no basic could. The bounce is the cost the power is paid in: you buy color certainty and a recurring land for a turn of tempo. Inside a deck built to leverage the return (landfall triggers, lands-matter recursion, or a manabase that prizes color depth over speed) it keeps generating value every time a land touches the table.
