It'll Quench Ya!

Instant — Lesson1 generic manaBlue mana

Force Spike gave you a one-mana tax that only bit on turn one or two; widening the toll to 2 generic mana extends the window without pretending it stays sharp. The pitch here is tempo, not denial: the opponent either pays two mana they hadn't budgeted, often enough to knock a curve off-line, or the spell dies and you've spent two to their much more. Because the tax stays flat regardless of target, the counter scales down as the game runs long, which is why soft counters in this family have always lived in aggressive shells rather than control decks holding answers into the late turns. What sharpens this one is where it lives in your library: as a Lesson, it sits outside the deck proper, retrievable by the effects that reach for that subtype. That converts the soft counter's structural flaw (drawing it while the opponent has open mana to pay) into a decision made with information, since you go looking for it precisely when you've seen them tap out. The interaction is deliberately modest, and the modesty is the design's whole logic: an answer you can summon on cue is worth more at a low floor than a hard counter you have to hope you drew.
