A 4/8 with shroud for seven is already a wall few aggressive decks want to swing into, but the printed body is a feint: this Kraken doubles to an 8/16 the instant any library drops to twenty cards or fewer. That threshold is the whole design, and the elegance is that it doesn't care whose library empties. In an attrition grind, both players draw toward the same trigger, so the creature transforms from a stonewall into a beater right as the game reaches its natural decking-zone end stage. The shroud is what makes the plan honest: a creature meant to sit on the board through the long turns can't be removed by targeted spells once it gets dangerous, so the deck that runs it doesn't have to protect its payoff, only survive to the count. The cost of all this is that the upside sits on a timer, though blue's mill and self-mill can hurry either library toward twenty rather than leaving it to natural draws. It is a finisher disguised as a roadblock, rewarding the deck that intends to win by simply refusing to lose first.
