Inventive Wingsmith

Creature — Dwarf Artificer2 generic manaWhite mana

Evasion here works as a ratchet rather than a per-turn dance. Cast nothing from your hand across a turn and the body earns a flying counter at end step; that counter is permanent, so you pay in tempo once and keep the wings even after you resume casting. The clause is precise about what it audits: it checks only whether you cast a spell from hand during your turn, which means the draw-go pattern of passing with mana up and holding instant-speed answers for the opponent's turn satisfies the condition without costing you anything. A control pilot loses nothing, because the turn spent "doing nothing" proactively is exactly the turn already reserved for interacting on the other side. The friction lands on decks that want to advance the board and empty their hand in the same turn: they cannot dump cards and grow the flyer at once. The 2/4 reads as a defensive curve-filler, but the upside rewards restraint specifically. The counter accrues fastest for the deck that was already content to hold up mana and let the board sit still, and the design's real cleverness is aligning the reward with the tempo profile of a deck that wanted to pass the turn anyway, turning a patient posture into an unlockable clock.
