Intimidation

Enchantment2 generic manaBlack manaBlack manaBlack mana

Fear is the keyword that gives this enchantment its shape and its problem: an entire team grants past defenders except artifact creatures and black creatures, which sounds like a board-wide haymaker until you count what you spent to set it up. Drop 2 generic manaBlack manaBlack manaBlack mana, commit a card slot, and you have an effect that needs a developed battlefield to mean anything; the evasion only starts earning once you already have creatures worth pushing through. Anything that pins evasion to a body, or grants it to a single attacker, beats this on tempo and card economy, and announces less to an opponent holding up answers. The keyword itself belongs to an older approach to black's color pie, the soft evasion the color carried before menace and intimidate sanded the idea into cleaner shapes, and the carve-out was always generous enough to leave the grant leaky against the very decks (other black decks, artifact-heavy boards) it most wanted to slip past. The deeper artifact here is a design instinct the game moved away from: the standalone evasion anthem, an enchantment that asks for a battlefield it offers no help in assembling. The ceiling is a wall of unblockable bodies; the floor is paying five mana to learn you did not have the board to make it matter.
