Incendiary Sabotage
Red has always been the color of damage-based board wipes, from Pyroclasm scaling to two up through the various flavors of three-damage sweep; what separates this one from that lineage is not the sweep itself but the timing. The sacrifice clause buys instant speed. A sorcery-speed three-damage wipe is a known quantity; being able to fire the same effect after blockers commit, in response to an alpha strike, or during your opponent's second main is the upgrade, and the artifact tax is what that flexibility costs. The requirement rewards a deck that was already manufacturing disposable permanents (Servos, Thopters, and the like), where the artifact you feed it was destined to die or trigger something on its way out, so the sacrifice reads as setup rather than tempo loss. That is the real tension in the design: in a deck not built around it, the additional cost stings; in an artifact-dense shell, the sweeper becomes a clean two-for-many that punishes an opponent who overextends into open red mana. Being able to hold this up as a combat trick is what earns it a slot over the straightforward sorcery sweepers red already has, and the sacrifice requirement is the gate that keeps a mass-removal trick from being available to every red deck unconditionally.
