The eminence keyword answered a specific design problem: how to make a commander matter before it ever hits the battlefield. Most commanders sit in the command zone as a threat and a mana investment; this one taxes and rewards the entire game from the zone itself, charging one generic mana to copy every nontoken Wizard you play the moment it enters. That reframes the deckbuilding math entirely. A Wizard is no longer just its stats and its enters-the-battlefield trigger; it's that trigger fired twice, with a hasty body attached for a turn. The copy exiles at the next end step, and that expiry is the discipline the ability runs on: the value is front-loaded into the enter and the swing, not a permanent board, so the deck wants Wizards whose triggers pay off immediately rather than ones that accrue over turns. Built into the same card is the closing clause, a way to convert a wide Wizard board directly into seven life off any player's total. Tap five, and someone is a sixth of the way to dead from a single activation, which turns the token-copy engine into a body count that feeds its own kill switch. It is one of the cleaner statements of what eminence was for: a commander that changes how you evaluate every other card in the deck without needing to be on the battlefield to do it.
