Hymn of the Wilds

Conspiracy

Half the color pie surrendered before a card is drawn, in exchange for shaving one mana off a single creature per turn: that is the bargain this conspiracy locks in from the opening moment, and it is a genuinely strange one to sign. Because it starts face up in the command zone, the ban on instants and sorceries is not a mid-game decision you steer around; it is a permanent clause that retroactively grades your whole spellbook, recoloring burn, counterspells, and tempo tricks as dead cards the instant you commit. The reward is pointedly modest and repeatable rather than explosive: the first creature each turn, not every creature, which nudges toward a curve of bodies instead of a single fat payoff. What makes the design worth studying is the axis it works on. Most cards change the board or the stack; this one edits the rules of the deck holding it, narrowing your own options as the price of a small, recurring edge. It rewards a tunnel-vision creature flood and punishes the reflex to hedge with a handful of answers. That constraint-as-power contract is the whole reason conspiracies exist as a category: cards that warp the deck they live in rather than the game in front of them, imposing a self-authored deckbuilding law that a normal spell could never charge for.
