The drawback is the flavor, and the flavor is a single tribe. A 1/2 for one black mana is an ordinary defensive body, the kind of statline that wants to sit back and trade with early attackers; the wrinkle is that this one carries a restriction touching blocking and nothing else. That makes it a study in misdirected cost. A 1/2 wall wants to block, and this one specifically cannot block the tribe it was built to fear. On offense the restriction is invisible: the Ghoul swings at anything, including the very Humans it refuses to stand in front of. The penalty lands precisely where the body would otherwise earn its keep, and only against creatures of one type, which means against opponents fielding no Humans you are holding a clean, unrestricted one-drop. It is a design built on set-level antagonism: the dead pressing against the living, the ghoul willing to hunt a Human but unwilling (or unable) to be cornered by one. What sells it is that the fiction and the mechanic agree: the hunters had reason to fear what was hunting them back, and the card encodes that pressure as a defensive blind spot rather than a generic loss of stats. The cost is real on paper and weightless wherever the feared tribe never appears, which is most places the Ghoul will ever stand.
