Hunted Dragon

The downside is paid to your opponent, not subtracted from your own side, and that asymmetry defines the whole design. A 6/6 flyer with haste for five mana swings the turn it resolves, but resolving it arms the player you least want armed with three 2/2 first strikers. The math curdles quickly: the Knights have no flying, so they can never block the Dragon overhead, yet they wall your ground attackers, trade up against your smaller creatures, and linger long after the Dragon has finished its work. This is the Hunted cycle's governing bargain, a body costed well below curve in exchange for handing real resources across the table. The puzzle is making the gift inert after it arrives, and the cleanest answers are the ones that hit the opponent's board without caring whose it is. A modest damage sweeper like Pyroclasm clears three 2/2s while leaving the 6/6 untouched. Edicts and sacrifice outlets, by contrast, get worse against this card, not better: the tokens are exactly the chaff your opponent feeds to a forced sacrifice instead of their best creature, and a sacrifice outlet on your side cannot touch a board you do not control. Played straight, it is a tempo loan repaid with interest to the wrong account; played around its drawback, it is among the most aggressively costed flyers of its era. The clause that endangers the caster is the same clause that rewards the player who has the sweeper in hand the moment the trigger resolves.
