Hotshot Mechanic

Artifact Creature — Fox PilotWhite mana

A one-drop that reads like a creature but functions like a discount. The math is what to notice: a 2/1 that crews as though it were power 4 will, on its own, satisfy most of the two- and three-power crew requirements that Vehicles ask for, which means a single body animates a machine that would otherwise sit inert until turn three or four. That collapses the central tension of Vehicle design, where the archetype's cost is the tempo you lose finding enough bodies to turn your artifacts on. Crewing as though power were 2 greater lets this creature do the work of two smaller crewers while occupying a single slot, and it survives combat to crew again next turn. The Pilot type is the flavor hook; the phantom power is the mechanical one. Because the bonus is static rather than a printed crew value, it applies every time the creature crews and stacks on top of whatever else taps in: point it at a big Vehicle alongside another body and the two clear the requirement together. Note the limit, though, that crewing still taps the creature, so it commits to one Vehicle per turn like any other crewer. In a line of design that had leaned on either dedicated small crewers or expensive fatties to reach crew numbers, this is the piece that lets a Vehicle deck run lean, aggressive, and close to the ground.
