Populate's whole pitch was getting two of something for one card, and this is the rate-card that shows what eight mana buys when the token you're copying is a 4/4 with trample. The sorcery makes the Rhino, then immediately doubles it, so you net eight power across two trampling bodies in a single cast. That sequencing is the design's quiet trick: populate copies a token you already control, and because the Rhino enters first, the spell is self-contained: it doesn't ask you to have anything on board beforehand, the way a bare populate effect would. The cost is the obvious counterweight. Eight mana for two vanilla-ish beaters is a top-end play, not a tempo one, and the green creature-token shell that wants this is a go-wide deck already flooding the board with copyable bodies. In that context the printed Rhino is almost incidental; what the deck is really paying for is a populate effect that can land on whatever its best token happens to be: an Angel, a Wurm, a token with keywords baked into its printed characteristics. The card is built as a ceiling-raiser for a populate engine, the splashy finisher rather than the enabler. Its flat power level out of that shell is the price of folding the populate clause into a one-shot that always has a target: you never cast this hoping the copy fizzles, because the Rhino it just made guarantees the trigger lands.
