Holy Light
A color-hosed sweeper from the era when Magic still wired punishment directly into the color pie. The -1/-1 to nonwhite creatures is asymmetric by construction: it leaves your white board untouched while shaving a point off everyone else's, which makes it a weapon built for the deck already committed to a single color rather than a generic answer any controlling shell can run. That narrowness is the whole design. In a heads-up mirror against another white deck the instant does literally nothing, and against a green stompy board it does only a single point, so it earns its slot only in a shell constructed around white's purity. The instant timing is where the design gives back: cast in response to a combat trigger or to push a one-toughness swarm off the table at the right moment, it converts a marginal effect into a blowout. Holy Light belongs to a lineage of color-keyed sweepers (the early design language for "white hates non-white," the same wheel-driven hatred that let red punish artifacts) where the constraint that limits the card is the same constraint that defines the color's identity. Modern white removal long ago abandoned this kind of tribal-by-color asymmetry in favor of cleaner exile and damage-prevention effects, which makes this a fossil of how aggressively the early sets were willing to let the color wheel dictate what a spell could touch.
