The engine that broke Elf decks open. Most mana dorks tap one creature for one mana; this one converts a wide board of small bodies into a burst, asking you to commit three Elves at once and paying you three green back. The trick is that summoning sickness does not matter for the cost: tap three Elves you cast this very turn, float , and a flat board becomes explosive acceleration. That single line made the chained-Elf combos viable, because it lets the deck turn width into mana faster than it can do so one creature at a time. Pair it with effects that untap your team or cast more Elves for free and the math compounds: each new body is not just a future tapper but immediate fuel. The three-Elf requirement is what pays for the rate; on an empty board it produces nothing, and it punishes a creature deck that has already been picked apart. But Elf strategies are built precisely to flood the board early, so the worst case is rarely the one it ends up in. It reframed the question these decks ask from "how much mana per creature" to "how fast can I deploy bodies," and the archetype has been chasing that explosive opening ever since.
