Helm of Awakening
A symmetrical cost reducer that asks one question of every deck it enters: who casts more spells, you or them? The body is plain (an artifact that drops every spell's cost by one), but the design is a wager on imbalance, because a flat reduction across the board only matters to the player whose game plan is built on volume. That is why it has never found a home in a fair, one-spell-per-turn deck and has always been hunted by combo: the reduction compounds with itself the moment a deck loops cheap spells, and it has anchored more than one Visions-era and Old School engine where a string of near-free artifacts or cantrips suddenly pays for the next link in the chain. Cost reduction as a category has grown subtler since (later designs narrowed the discount to a color, a type, or your own spells to stop exactly this kind of breakage), which makes this one a clean artifact of an earlier design philosophy: print the symmetrical effect, trust that someone has to want it more than their opponent does, and let the format sort out who that is.
