Mind Rot has been the baseline for two-card discard since the game's earliest sets: three mana, no upside, a sorcery-speed hit to the hand that aggressive black decks rarely had room for. The conditional here turns that flat rate into a tempo play. Attack first, and the Treasure refunds part of the cost while fixing a color, which quietly changes who casts the card. Pure disruption decks want to strip a hand on the draw or while behind; a Treasure rider rewards the opposite posture, the deck that already has a board and is using a main-phase discard to clear blockers, removal, or a stabilizing sweeper from an opponent trying to claw back. Because raid checks whether you attacked and resolves as part of the spell rather than firing separately, the payoff arrives exactly on the proactive turns and skips the defensive ones: when you are under pressure and holding back, there is nothing to attack with, so the discard costs full price and the Treasure never comes. That asymmetry is the whole point. The card only rewards the hand that was already ahead, refusing to bail out the controlling deck that would most want cheap disruption. It is a hand-attack spell tuned to be cast by the beatdown deck rather than against it, with the Treasure nudging toward the next threat or the next removal spell.
