The tribal payload here has a target audience that the flavor spells out and the rules text quietly enforces: a Knights lord that hands out protection from the exact creature type positioned to be its natural predator. Protection from Assassins does structural work far beyond the flavor gag. It means Haytham and his retinue cannot be blocked by Assassins, cannot be targeted by their removal or auras, and shrug off their combat damage entirely, which turns a Knights board into a wall the opposing tribe simply cannot punch through. The entry trigger is the other half of the design, and it is built around symmetry rather than raw greed: for each opponent, one creature gets tucked away until Haytham leaves, so a multiplayer table clears a threat per seat while a duel gets a single removal effect. Because the exile is tied to Haytham's presence rather than being permanent, killing the four-mana body hands every stolen creature back at once, which makes the trigger a tempo swing on a timer rather than clean removal. That coupling (a lord that swells a specific tribe against a specific enemy, plus a board-parity effect that unwinds if you overextend into it) is the whole reason the card reads as a centerpiece for one archetype and a fine value creature everywhere else.
