Hawkeye's Shot

Sorcery4 generic manaWhite mana

Unconditional exile is white's premium answer, and it almost always comes stapled to a price the color pays elsewhere: a mana premium, a delay, a body attached. Here the discount is the whole point. At full five mana this is a slow, overpriced removal spell no serious deck wants. Aim it at a tapped creature and it drops to three, and the nudge behind that discount is unmistakable: punish the thing after it has committed. A creature is tapped when it attacked, when it was crewed or convoked, when it tapped itself for an activated ability, or when an effect tapped it down. The spell rewards patience by exiling a threat whose controller has already spent it. Exile is why the timing pays off: it sidesteps the graveyard recursion, indestructibility, and death triggers that undercut conditional removal, so you are not answering the creature, you are subtracting it from the game. But this is a sorcery, and that reshapes the whole interaction. You cannot fire it during an opponent's alpha strike; you wait for your turn and clean up a creature that stayed tapped through your untap step, or one an opponent tapped for value the cycle before. That constraint is the design tension: white gets clean, cheap exile, but only against creatures caught out of position, and the discount only materializes against a target the opponent has committed. Against a board of untapped blockers, the price never comes down.
