Hawkeye, Avenging Archer
A single point of damage kills almost nothing worth killing, and that is exactly the mechanism at work here: the tap is not a payoff but a stamp. Deal one damage to an opposing creature, and you have flagged it as something Hawkeye touched this turn; the death trigger then fires no matter who lands the killing blow. Your removal, your blockers, a board wipe, an opponent's own sacrifice outlet: any of them turns a creature you already marked into a card in hand. The design's cleverness is that it reads the entire battlefield rather than just Hawkeye's own combat, which is where red-blue "deal damage, draw cards" packages usually cap out. Older versions of that idea wanted the source creature to connect for the trigger; pivoting to a death trigger conditioned on prior damage lets the effect harvest attrition it did not cause. The more crowded the opposing board, the more often something already stamped dies to routine trading. The 3/4 with reach is the grounded shell that keeps the loop running: durable enough to tap every turn, block a flyer, and survive the trades that make its own trigger go off. What balances the whole thing is the "this turn" clause, which forces you to spend the tap on a target you expect to die soon rather than pre-marking the whole board, so the card rewards reading the table over blanket coverage.
