Trample is what turns a 4/3 into a clock instead of a body that stalls the moment the ground clogs: it clears a single blocker and still shoves a point through, which is exactly the arithmetic an aggressive red deck needs once early creatures have traded off and the game slows. The cost of that pressure is toughness three, sitting squarely inside common burn ranges and folding to most combat tricks; this wants to swing into a board already tilted in its favor rather than dig in to hold a line. It is a closer, not a stabilizer, and nothing in the design reaches past that role. The Devil typing is flavor, not a tribal payoff, and the effect is a top-of-curve pressure piece for a deck that has already spent its opening turns dealing damage. Honest filler for an aggressive red curve, built to keep the clock running when a wall of blockers would otherwise stop it, and clear-eyed about being filler.
