A retaliation spell built on a strict timing fence: it lives entirely inside the declare attackers step, and only once you've actually been attacked. That window is the whole design. Most white damage-redirection works as a preemptive pillow you set up before combat math is locked; this one is reactive, cast with full knowledge of who swung, then it bounces incoming damage back onto each attacker's controller for the rest of the turn. The result punishes alpha strikes specifically: the bigger the commitment, the harder the recoil, since every point of combat damage you take becomes a point dealt to the player who chose to commit it. Note what it does not do: it doesn't prevent or reduce the damage to you, so it reads less as a Fog and more as a mutual-assured-destruction clause, a Pariah-style mirror pointed at the attacker rather than at one of your own creatures. The verbose, self-contained templating belongs to the early beginner-facing line, where cards spelled out their timing in full sentences rather than the keyword shorthand the main sets had already adopted. The mechanic is cleaner than the wording suggests: a one-shot, instant-speed deterrent that turns an opponent's aggression into the cost of attacking.
