Hamlet Captain
The anthem is built into combat, not the battlefield, and that timing is the whole pivot of how it plays. Static Human lords pump as long as they stand; this one only fires when the attack-or-block trigger goes on the stack, which makes the buff a resource you spend in a given combat rather than a state you maintain across turns. The effect points outward, sparing the captain itself, so the team gets the bonus while the body stays a 2/2 unless something else is lifting it. Blocking matters as much as attacking: the trigger reads both ways, which lets a defending player turn a row of 1/1 Human tokens into 2/2s once blocks are declared. The threat is fully telegraphed (the card sits face-up, so an attacker can do the math before committing), but it still warps the calculus: every alpha strike into an untapped captain has to assume the defending team is one size larger than it looks. The tribe restriction sets the terms of its upside: dead weight on a board with no other Humans, a real engine on top of a dense one. As tribal scaffolding it occupies the unglamorous middle layer, beneath the format-defining lords and above pure filler, doing the quiet work of converting a wide Human curve into combat reach it would not otherwise have.
