Hallowed Respite
Ownership does the sorting here, not the caster's choice. Aim it at your own creature and the exile-and-return arrives with a +1/+1 counter, a flicker that also grows; aim it at an opponent's and the same reset comes back tapped, stripping a blocker before your swing or tapping down a mana source. You choose the target on cast, but the effect keys off who owns the creature, so the spell picks its mode for you: one card doing constructive work when pointed inward, disruptive work when pointed across, sorted automatically by control rather than color. Being a sorcery makes both halves proactive: the tap lands on your turn, so it clears a path for aggression rather than answering an attacker at instant speed. Flashback staples a second cast to the bottom of the card, which pays off most in a grind, where the first cast might re-trigger an enters-the-battlefield effect to bank value while the graveyard copy swings tempo a turn later. The nonlegendary clause gates the whole spell, keeping it off marquee legends entirely and holding the package to fair, midrange-scaled work. Each half is small on its own; the point is the bundling, one two-mana sorcery that carries both growth and tempo and lets the board decide which one you get.
