Gwyllion Hedge-Mage
Two enters-the-battlefield triggers, each gated on a land subtype, sit on a body too plain to matter on its own. Control two Plains and you may leave behind a 1/1 Kithkin Soldier; control two Swamps and you may shrink or kill a creature by weakening it. The split single-color pip means a deck committed to either half reliably gets one of those payoffs, but the design points toward the overlap: a board running both basics lights up both triggers off one creature entering, with no cost paid beyond the lands you already wanted. Crucially the conditions read the Plains and Swamp subtypes, not the basic supertype, so dual lands and other nonbasics carrying those types count toward both halves at once, easing the strain of hitting both numbers. The triggers are conditional rather than guaranteed, which keeps the floor honest: a light splash often gets one effect and not the other, and the 2/2 alone is forgettable. The ceiling is a creature that arrives, makes a token, and removes something across the table in a single turn. This is the hag-and-mage cycle's governing idea: land-counting stands in for an explicit deckbuilding tax, asking you to earn the bonus through genuine color commitment instead of paying for it on the card itself.
