Guardian of New Benalia
Enlist is one of the rare mechanics that treats non-attacking creatures as fuel rather than clutter, and this two-drop is the payoff built to exploit it: as it attacks, it can tap an untapped, non-summoning-sick creature to borrow that body's power, then bank card selection off the same swing. The cohesion is what makes it more than a combat bump. The enlist trigger feeds the scry, the scry digs toward more fodder and hands you cards worth pitching, and the discard-to-indestructible ability turns those pitched cards into a survival clause: a benchwarmer's power converts into damage on this creature's face while the shield lets it trade up into a much larger blocker or shrug off a combat-timed sweeper. Because the cost is only discarding a card and the tap is part of the effect rather than the price, that shield can be bought as many times as you have cards to spend, limited by your hand rather than by whether the creature is already tapped. Enlist remains a narrow keyword, appearing in only a handful of designs, and most of them treat it as a one-turn power spike. This one is closer to an engine: a small body that wants a wide, sticky board, wants that board pressed into attacking, and rewards each swing with filtering and a stubborn refusal to leave the battlefield.
