Most changelings ask you to accept a blank body in exchange for slotting into every tribe at once; this one refuses to arrive empty-handed. A Shapeshifter registers as Elf, Goblin, Merfolk, Sliver, and everything else, so it satisfies any payoff that scans for a shared type, but the enters trigger drops a permanent counter onto a creature of your choosing before it commits to being fodder. That second clause pushes it out of pure typal glue and into the counters-matter conversation: proliferate shells, aggressive +1/+1 decks, anything that wants growth banked somewhere durable. The intersection is the payoff. A vanilla changeling covers one archetype; this covers two, and because the counter outlives the fragile body, the value sticks even after the 1/1 trades away or gets swept. The rate stays honest precisely because the creature is so flimsy: you get a permanent counter and universal creature typing, but nothing about the stats or the price lets the flexibility snowball. Green has cranked out changelings for years, most of them content to be walking type lines; grafting a persistent counter onto the chassis is what earns this one a look over a body that only shares every type.
