The trick is in the return cost: instead of a sacrifice or a mana payment, the enchantment bounces itself to hand to fire, which means it never actually leaves your toolbox. Each turn you can replay it for White manaWhite mana and have the prevention ready again the next combat, turning a two-mana enchantment into a recurring fog-on-a-stick that only ever stops one unblocked attacker at a time. The limitation that makes the rate work is right there in the targeting: it reaches only unblocked creatures, so it does nothing to soften a swarm or to save a creature that has already been blocked. It is a single-target safety valve for the biggest threat coming through unimpeded, not a sweeper. The design sits in the lineage of repeatable prevention effects white explored heavily in this era, where the question was always how to give a defensive tool staying power without letting it lock down a board permanently. The self-bounce answers that elegantly: the prevention persists across turns, but only if you keep paying to reset it, and only against one creature each time.
