Golgari Guildgate

Land — Gate

The tradeoff is fixed and unromantic: a tapland that produces exactly two colors in exchange for one full turn of tempo. The Guildgate cycle exists to put a floor under two-color manabases, the budget answer to dual lands when shocklands and painlands cost too much, and the Golgari pairing of black and green is the one this serves. What separates it from a plain tapped dual is the Gate type, a deliberate handle the design team built so later cards could care about Gates as a category: payoffs that reward stacking them, or count them, without the type ever mattering to the land's own function. That makes the entering-tapped clause less a pure drawback and more the price of admission to a small, self-contained subtheme. On its own the card asks nothing of you and rewards nothing in particular; it taps for black or green a turn late, every time, with no shock, no scry, no upside beyond reliability. The honesty of that is the point. It is fixing for players who want their colors guaranteed and are willing to pay the slowest currency in the game for the certainty.
