Golem's Heart

Artifact2 generic mana

A payoff in search of a deck that never quite earned it. The trigger fires on any artifact spell cast, by any player, which sounds like a heavy-artifact metagame's life-buffer until you do the arithmetic: one life per cast is the slowest possible drip, and it asks for nothing in return beyond the two mana to deploy it. It belongs to the same family as the symmetric incidental-payoff artifacts that pad out artifact-matters sets, the ones that reward a board state you were building anyway with a trickle of value rather than a real engine. The "may" is the tell: this was never meant to threaten anyone, just to thicken a life total against aggression while you assembled something that actually mattered. Its ceiling is in a deck doing genuinely absurd volumes of cheap artifact casting, where one life per spell finally compounds into a wall, and even there it competes for the slot against artifacts that draw cards or generate mana off the same triggers. What it represents is a recurring tension in low-cost payoff design: an effect cheap enough to splash and broad enough to always do something will, almost by definition, never do enough to build around. It gains life, reliably, for very little; that is both the whole pitch and the reason it sits in binders.
