Battle cry rewrites what a 2/2 for double red means in a wide board. On its own the body is unremarkable, but the keyword turns it into a multiplier: every other attacker swings for one more, so the value scales with the size of the team rather than the strength of any single creature. That is the design tension worth naming. The card wants company, which makes it a build-around rather than a standalone beater. Two attackers and the buff is marginal; five attackers and it is adding four power across the board for free, off the same two-mana cost. The keyword has a deliberate self-exclusion baked in: the bonus skips the creature granting it, so a single battle cry source can't pump itself, only its teammates. Run several and the effect genuinely compounds across the swarm, since each trigger applies independently to every other attacker; declare three battle cry creatures into a wide attack and every non-source attacker collects all three +1/+0 bonuses at once. No one creature ever pumps itself, but the rest of the horde stacks every trigger that resolves. That is a clean way to reward going wide: the more bodies you commit, the more each source pays out. It sits in the long lineage of cheap red creatures that exist to make a horde lethal a turn earlier, the kind of payoff that asks you to flood the board first and trust the math to close.
