Goblin Sledder

Creature — GoblinRed mana

Goblin tribal in this era lived and died on the throughput of its sacrifice outlets, and this is the cheapest one printed: a free, repeatable way to convert a dying body into combat math. The +1/+1 itself is almost beside the point. What the sacrifice clause really buys is timing control over your own creatures, exercised at instant speed for no mana. Feed a Goblin already marked for death to Sledder before removal resolves, and you have traded a creature you were going to lose anyway for a pump on something that survives. The activation costs only a Goblin, the resource the deck overproduces, so the ability is functionally free as long as the board is wide. That is why a 1/1 with no evasion and an unassuming body held a slot in one of Magic's most enduring aggressive tribes: it does not ask the deck to spend anything it was not already spending. The pump also rewrites a single combat: grow an attacker past a blocker, trade up, or push the last point through. It is connective tissue rather than a payoff, the card that lets a Goblin board behave as one fluid pile of resources instead of a row of individual creatures. It reads as filler right up until you have something worth sacrificing into, at which point it quietly does the work of an extra spell every turn.
