Goblin Ski Patrol

Creature — Goblin1 generic manaRed mana

A goblin ski patrol that refuses to function without snow is a joke told entirely in rules text, and the design commits to the gag at the expense of the rate. Ice Age introduced snow-covered basics as a parallel land type and gave a handful of cards reasons to commit to them; this one gates its whole payoff behind controlling a snow Mountain. Strip the requirement away and you have a fragile 1/1 that pumps to swing for three in the air exactly once, then dies at the next end step, the kind of throwaway lunge that breaks a stalemate. Keep the snow clause and the activation becomes a deckbuilding tax: the reward is one airborne attack, the price is structuring your mana around a land type that does nothing else for the goblin. The activation is a Hail Mary by construction: a single swing, no encore, and a self-imposed sacrifice waiting on the way out. This is "snow matters" in its clumsy infancy, the version Wizards built before the mechanic learned to pay back the commitment rather than merely demand it. As an artifact of that experiment it is more telling for what it reveals about the experiment than for anything it ever accomplished across a table.
