Goblin Piker
The vanilla yardstick for two-mana red beaters, sized exactly where the color's aggressive curve wants it: two power for one card and one toughness for a quick clock. The 2/1 body is its own balancing act, trading durability for output, a creature that dies to almost anything but pays for its slot in damage once it can swing. Red has printed dozens of variations on this exact statline, each adding a rider in exchange for the same fragile frame: Mons's Goblin Raiders held the floor below it, while later goblins layered haste, an attack trigger, or a death payoff on top of the same numbers. The Goblin Warrior typing was incidental here but became load-bearing later, as goblin tribal grew into one of red's defining archetypes and any creature carrying the type earned synergy it was never designed to have. As a product of the Portal line, it was built to teach combat math to new players without any text to parse: attack with two, lose it to a blocker, understand the exchange. That pedagogical origin is exactly why it reads as a baseline rather than a card with an angle. It is the rate against which a designer measures what a single keyword or trigger is worth.
