Goblin Mutant

A 5/3 trampler for four mana saddled with two restrictions instead of one, both pinned to the same number: it can't attack into an untapped power-3-or-greater creature, and it can't block anything with power 3 or greater. A wall has been bolted right into the body. This is an early attempt to give red a beater whose drawback scales with the opponent's board rather than with a fixed clock or upkeep tax. The creature wants the ground swept clear: it swings freely while the defender's beef stays small or stays tapped, then sits useless the moment a real blocker arrives untapped. The 3-power threshold doubles as a tell about where the designers thought combat math lived, since most of what it fears slots neatly above that line. The body is unusually aggressive for its era, but the conditions undercut the rate so thoroughly that it plays as a tempo gamble more than a threat: good against go-wide token boards and small defenders, dead against the midrange bodies that actually contest the ground. The trample is nearly decorative, relevant only in the narrow window where attacking is permitted at all. The card reads as a product of an older balancing instinct, when a "drawback creature" meant stacking restrictions until the cost looked fair, rather than tuning a single clean tension into the body.
