Goblin Berserker

Creature — Goblin Berserker3 generic manaRed mana

Four mana for a 2/2 with first strike and haste is a poor rate by any standard, and the keywords don't begin to bridge the gap. Early-era red handed out combat abilities in lieu of the stats to use them, and this is the result: a vanilla-adjacent body dressed up as a reckless front-line attacker, priced as if the keywords were doing more than they are. First strike on two power wins a few opening skirmishes; haste means it can attack as soon as it arrives. Neither changes the fundamental problem, which is that you are paying four mana for a creature any contemporary removal answers without a second thought. The name and the aggressive keywords read as flavor, an effort to make the type line's promise feel like something the card delivers. The tribal tag is the only thread worth pulling: a Goblin is a Goblin, so this technically slots into the lord-and-payoff shells that have always carried the creature type. But it brings nothing those decks want that cheaper Goblins don't bring better, and four mana sits at exactly the wrong place on the curve for a tribe built on flooding the board early. What's left is a creature whose entire pitch is two keywords on a frame too fragile to make them count, a holdover from when red got combat words instead of the bodies to wield them.
