Glimpse the Unthinkable

SorceryBlue manaBlack mana

Ten cards for two mana is the most concentrated mill rate ever printed in these colors, and that number is doing all the work. Most mill effects price the cards conservatively because milling is a clock that wins without ever touching the life total or the board: the deck doing it has to survive while the opposing library empties. The aggressive rate here is what makes a dedicated mill plan viable in the first place. At five cards per mana you are tearing through a sixty-card library in six casts, and the math only gets nastier as the deck shrinks. That density is also why the card has never been a generically good include outside its archetype. It does nothing to a board, nothing to a life total, nothing to the stack; in any deck not built to capitalize on a depleted library, ten cards in someone's graveyard is just card selection for the opponent and fuel for anything that cares about a full yard. The result is a binary for the deckbuilder: either mill is the win condition and this spell is a load-bearing part of it, or it is dead weight. There is no middle setting where it quietly contributes. As the high-water mark for raw mill efficiency, it is the spell every later milling card gets measured against, and the one that defined what a turn-two mill opening could even look like.
