Most lords pump one color, one tribe, one tidy bucket. This one pays out on two color axes at once, and the trick the design rewards is not splashing a second color so much as fielding creatures that are genuinely both colors. A mono-blue or mono-black board collects a single +1/+1 per qualifying body, same as any anthem; a creature that is itself blue and black collects both buffs for a full +2/+2. The three hybrid pips let it slot into a single-color list or a two-color blend, but the real ceiling lives in gold creatures sitting on both sides of the line, which is exactly what this color pair's small evasive bodies tend to be.
That payoff structure also names the limits. The buff keys off a creature's actual color (its color indicator and the mana symbols in its cost), not any shared subtype, which is a wider net than a tribal lord casts: any blue or any black body qualifies. But it reaches nothing outside those two colors, and it never pumps itself, so a 2/3 flier stays a 2/3 flier no matter how dense the board gets. The Faerie Knight typing fits a 2/3 that wants other small fliers beside it climbing toward 3/4 and beyond. What it asks for is not a wide board so much as a deep one in the right two colors, carrying as many genuinely dual creatures as the deck can manage.
