The recursion clause is narrower than a casual read suggests, and that narrowness is the whole engine: it returns only the creatures that hit the graveyard from the battlefield during the same turn the end step resolves, so this is a death-loop payoff rather than a generic reanimator. The window favors creatures you feed to your own sacrifice outlets or send into trades during your turn, because those bodies come back to hand at your end step with no mana spent. Anything that dies on the opponent's turn, including blockers thrown under an attacker, slips away unrecovered; the trigger has already passed. That asymmetry is the design constraint that keeps the engine honest. It rewards a Golgari shell that throws creatures into the graveyard on purpose during its own turn and reclaims them before passing, turning the yard into a revolving door rather than a destination. The 6/6 trample body is a respectable clock, but it is the least interesting thing here: the value is the recurring attrition tax it places on any opponent trying to grind, since creatures that died for profit refuse to stay dead. The hybrid casting cost is the practical concession, letting it slot into a graveyard deck that may be light on one of its two colors. The catch that bounds its power is the same timing that defines it: a removed Gleancrawler returns nothing, because the trigger needs Gleancrawler itself still on the battlefield when the end step arrives.
