Glaring Aegis

Enchantment — AuraWhite mana

Most one-mana auras that pump a creature are a straight tempo loss: you spend a card to add stats and hand the opponent a two-for-one the moment the body dies. The tap clause rewrites that arithmetic. The trigger fires on resolution at sorcery speed, so the play is proactive: cast it on your attacker before combat and the opponent's best blocker is tapped out of the way, clearing a lane the same turn you commit the card. That immediate burst of tempo is what keeps spending a card on an aura from feeling like a pure gamble. But the tap is a one-turn effect only in the most literal sense; because there is no flash here, resolving it on your own turn means the tapped creature untaps in the opponent's untap step before it can do anything, so this is not a defensive tap that saves you from an incoming attack. It is an offensive one that opens a hole in the blocking assignments right now. The +1/+3 that stays behind tells the longer story, and the toughness is the larger number for a reason: three extra points turn a fragile body into one that survives the trades and the burn it was previously losing, keeping the creature relevant across the turns after that opening swing. The tap wins the combat step; the stat line is what lets the same creature keep showing up.
