The result is a creature that punishes the empty turn and prices itself for the busy one. It nudges you toward a low-curve, spell-dense build where casting two things a turn is the default rather than the ceiling, and it turns what would be a filler body into a tempo swing precisely when your hand is already firing on multiple cylinders. The 4/4 is deliberately unremarkable; the interesting part is that you almost never pay what the mana cost says you will.
