Gearsmith Guardian
A common-rarity connective piece for the kind of two-color artifact deck that lives in the seam between Azorius control and Izzet tempo: a 3/5 body that wants you to be playing blue creatures anyway, and rewards you with a +2/+0 swing into a 5/5 the moment you do. The base toughness is the more interesting number. Five toughness on the ground survives most of what an aggressive board can throw at it, and the conditional power bump turns a defensive wall into a clock once your blue half shows up. That split is the design logic: it has to earn its keep on defense before the synergy condition is met, so it functions as a mid-game brick that anchors a stalled board rather than a beater that folds the instant its condition goes unmet. The construction is deliberately modest, fixing-by-incentive rather than build-around: it points an artifact deck toward a blue creature without demanding a specific one, and the bonus is static rather than triggered, so there is no sequencing puzzle to solve. It rewards a board state you were already building toward and asks nothing extra of you to do it. This is the sort of card that makes a two-color artifact shell coherent without ever being the reason the shell exists.
