The cleanest expression of the werewolf design tension: a 2/2 human that demands a turn of silence to flip, then punishes you for breaking it. The trigger condition is the whole strategic axis. To grow your werewolf into the unblockable-against-most Howler, you have to hold up no spells, which means the deck wants to deploy threats and then go quiet, a tempo posture that runs against everything sorcery-speed development wants you to do. The flip-back clause is the leash: a single player casting two spells in a turn snaps it home, so opponents who can double-spell get a free reset, and the werewolf player is constantly weighing whether ending a turn with mana untapped is worth the howl. Intimidate is the reward that makes the flip matter beyond the stat bump; a creature that most decks simply cannot block changes combat math in a way the 2/2 front face never threatens. As a design template, this pair codified the day-night rhythm that every later werewolf inherited: the upkeep checks, the no-spells condition, the two-spell snap-back. The numbers are modest by intent, because the payoff was never the body. It was teaching a deck to play in silences, to treat a turn spent doing nothing as the cost of unlocking an evasive beater that the front side only hints at.
