Gadwick's First Duel

Three chapters, three unrelated jobs, and that asymmetry is the whole design. Sagas normally tell one escalating story; this one reads more like a spellbook flipped to three pages at once. Chapter one is soft removal that shrinks a creature to a 1/1 under a Cursed Role, chapter two is a bit of card selection to smooth the wait, and chapter three is the payoff: a delayed spell-copy for a cheap instant or sorcery. The friction is the clock. Because a Saga adds its lore counter after the draw step, you cannot rush the copy trigger; you spend two mana up front and bank on the board still mattering, and on holding the right spell, when the third chapter finally resolves two turns later. That built-in delay is the price for what would otherwise be an absurd rate on a copy effect: a two-mana enchantment that eventually doubles a burn spell, a counterspell, a piece of removal, or a cantrip. The copy also caps out at the cheaper end of your spellbook, so it is a low-end doubler by intent, tuned for the small, repeatable interaction that fills a spell-heavy deck rather than for cloning a haymaker. It asks you to sequence around a timeline you committed to before you knew what the copy would find, which is a strange thing to demand of a two-drop and exactly what makes it worth building around.
