A firebreathing 1/1 wearing a three-mana body, which is the whole tension of the design. The Red mana: +1/+0 ability is the same pump engine that runs Shivan Dragon and the long line of red beaters built around dumping mana into power: pour red in, swing for more. The problem is the chassis it bolts that engine to. A 1/1 with haste wants to attack the turn it lands, but every point of extra power costs another red and leaves toughness untouched, so the creature dies to anything that trades and never survives the block it provokes. The math only ever favors the controller of the board, not the attacker hoping to push damage. What the extra two mana buys, then, is not a better firebreather; it is a 1/1 that can dump a flooded hand of red into a single combat step. That is a narrow proposition, a holdover from an era when red commons were handed mana sinks as a default rather than as a payoff. Haste is the only keyword doing honest work here, letting the body and its ability come online the same turn rather than telegraphing the threat a turn early. Stripped to its design intent, this is a curve-filler with a late-game outlet stapled on, an early lesson in what a mana sink looks like before the rates tightened enough to make them worth building around.
