Fortuitous Find

Sorcery2 generic manaBlack mana

The modal "choose one or both" clause is what separates this from the long line of generic black recursion. Raise Dead returns a creature and stops there; this can return a creature, an artifact, or one of each, which makes its ceiling entirely dependent on what your graveyard holds rather than on the spell itself. In a deck stuffed with artifacts and creatures, the second mode is rarely dead, and the both-modes option turns a single card into two pieces of card advantage at a slight premium over the bare-bones rate. The friction lives in the cost: three mana for a sorcery sits a tier above the cheapest reanimation fuel and the bargain-bin Raise Dead effects, and it asks you to be playing enough artifacts to justify the flexibility. Where the board is half-machines and half-bodies, it earns its keep; in a creature-only shell, it collapses into a clunky, overpriced Raise Dead. The design is doing something quietly precise: it splits the difference between two recursion archetypes (artifact value and creature value) and refuses to commit to either, so the burden of making both halves live falls on the graveyard you build rather than on the card you cast.
