Fortifying Provisions
The +0/+1 anthem is one of the humblest static buffs a color can print, and this bundles it with a Food token to prop up an archetype that lived and died on defensive incrementalism. The toughness bonus is deliberately toothless on offense: it does nothing to close a game, only to survive one, turning a wall of small creatures into a wall the opponent's attackers can no longer trade profitably into. That restriction is what defines the card. Stacked with itself or with other toughness-pumpers, it lifts a go-wide board out of range of the pings and one-damage sweepers that would otherwise clear a table of tokens, and it lets fragile bodies block up rather than chump. The Food attached on entry is the tax the design pays for how narrow the anthem is: a small hedge of lifegain to buy the extra turn a defensive deck needs, and a body of value for the sacrifice-and-Food subtheme it was built to feed. It is a card that only makes sense inside a plan, and the plan is patience. Set it against something like Intangible Virtue, which pushes tokens over the top on offense, and the contrast is sharp: this one keeps the team alive rather than lethal, a supporting piece for grinders rather than a haymaker for aggressors.
