A defensive two-drop that replaces itself, priced so the body isn't the payment. A 1/3 for two mana is a wall that survives most early blocks and holds the ground while it does its real job: leaving a Clue behind that converts a stalled board into a card whenever mana is spare. This is the deliberately unexciting flavor of card advantage: no immediate swing, just a delayed draw parked on an artifact you can cash in on a turn you'd otherwise waste. Thraben Inspector runs the same template in white, trading a slightly stronger body for the identical investigate trigger; the effect is old enough that the tension is well understood, which is precisely why it works. The Clue also matters for what it is rather than what it draws. It's an artifact permanent that sits on the battlefield doing nothing until sacrificed, which makes it fodder for anything that counts artifacts or wants something to feed a sacrifice outlet. A controlling shell wants exactly this kind of glue: it lives long enough to block, it doesn't cost a card to play, and the Clue smooths the draws that separate a deck that stumbles from one that grinds. The rate is modest on purpose; the value is in never being a dead card, arriving as a body, a blocker, and a stored draw in a single two-mana package.
