Fleshgrafter

Creature — Human Warrior2 generic manaBlack mana

The pump reads like aggression, but the cost reads like artifact-matters synergy, and that friction is where the design lives. Discarding an artifact card from hand to grow a 2/2 is a strange exchange on its face: the activation spends a card you've drawn rather than tapping mana, so each +2/+2 is paid in cards, not floor. That makes it a poor fit for any deck that wants its artifacts on the battlefield doing work. The build it wants is stuffed with artifacts it would rather have in the bin than the hand: recursion targets, fodder for graveyard payoffs, things whose value is realized after they're discarded. In that ecosystem the discard stops being a tax and becomes the point. Stripped of that context the ability is a repeatable combat trick whose only ceiling is your willingness to keep pitching cards, which in an aggressive draw is rarely the binding constraint. Nothing about the boost persists, and the discarded artifacts are gone from hand for good, so every activation is a genuine resource decision rather than free reach. It belongs to an early-era experiment in handing black mechanics that paid you for filling and feeding the graveyard, sitting at the seam between artifact-matters and discard-as-resource, asking you to convert cards in hand into the most basic currency the board offers: bigger numbers in combat.
