Lifelink and infect have nothing to say to each other, and that incompatibility is the whole point. Infect rewrites combat damage: hits to players become poison counters, hits to creatures become -1/-1 counters, and the printed power stops mattering as a life total at all. Lifelink, by contrast, keys off damage dealt as a raw number, indifferent to what form it takes. So a single point of infect damage to a player gains its controller one life while inflicting one poison, the two abilities measuring the same swing on scales that were never meant to touch. The result is a body that nibbles toward the ten-poison kill while quietly buffering its controller against the aggressive shell infect usually lives in. That tension (a slow, alternate-win clock paired with an attrition-resistant life drip) is the design idea, and it cuts against the grain of the mechanic. Most infect creatures want to race, trading their own fragility for speed; this one grinds instead, gaining life off the same connections that advance a poison kill an opponent cannot afford to ignore. A pump spell like Giant Growth makes the doubling explicit: the same +3/+3 widens the poison output and the life swing at once, so a single trick pulls two jobs that were never meant to share a card.
